Gradient Chair

One continuous seat where density changes instead of material: dense where it bears load, translucent where it breathes.

Details

Aidam founded Aikah after losing an argument with a chair. Fifteen thousand years later, Ilvea finally printed one that would hold him: no legs to count, no joints to fail, one continuous line that folds from the backrest to the floor.

The material never changes, only its density does. The base and the curve that carries the load are packed close to their limit, while the backrest thins until light passes through it. A trace of vacuum energy keeps the seat at body temperature, whatever the room.

Highlights

01

One piece, no seams

Printed in a single pass, from the top of the backrest to the tip of the base. Nothing to tighten, nothing to come loose.

02

Warm to the touch

A measured draw from the vacuum keeps the surface at the temperature of whoever sits on it.

03

Any gravity, any spine

The curve re-balances its density for the local gravity, and fits bodies with one spine, two, or none at all.

I never draw a chair. I ask the material where it wants to be strong, and I leave the rest to the light.
