Breath Column
Developed for the Kavesh-3 colony. A single column that keeps a halo of breathable air around it, in an atmosphere too thin to breathe.

Kavesh-3 has an atmosphere, but not one anyone can live on. The colony spent centuries under domes before asking us for something that would let them walk outside.
The Breath Column rises three hundred and forty metres from the floor of the red canyon. Its core draws the thin air in, enriches it and releases it through the ring at the top, where it settles into a halo that reaches six hundred metres out. Inside it, the colony breathes, plants grow, and the domes have finally been opened.

A halo, not a dome
No walls, no airlocks. The breathable air is held in place by the column alone, and anyone can walk in or out of it.
Dense below, open above
The base is packed to carry three hundred metres of structure; the ring at the top is thin enough to let the air through.
Grows with the colony
When the colony grows, the halo can be widened by retuning the ring. No second column needed.
For five hundred years we saw the canyon through glass. Now our children run across it, and we had to teach them what wind is.
